In Ghanaian culture, Sankofa means to "go back and get it". The bird is often shown as having its head backward, carrying an egg that symbolizes the great wisdom, lessons, and experiences gathered over time, with its feet facing forward, symbolizing the need to continue moving forward. The mug also has another alternative Asanta Akindra symbol garnished above.
